Sometimes you see a work of art that hits you.
And it
hits you hard.
If you
can, go to Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki and see Liinatie
(Cloth Road) by Hanneriina Moisseinen. It is a
part of the exhibition Eyeballing! The new forms of comics, but there is nothing comic in it.
The black story about a disappearing father is told with
cloth, paint and embroidery. It is pure poetry, where even
the materials have a deeper meaning. The cloths used
here are Karelian käspaikka towels which have been a
symbolic road inbetween this world and the hereafter.
The exhibition Eyeballing! is open until 9th of September 2012.
Museum of
Contemporary Art Kiasma, Mannerheiminaukio 2, Helsinki.
