Näytös 17 and the joy of fashion

Näytös (Show) is every year the highlight of Aalto University´s fashion student show, getting better and better every year. This year is 2017, so the title of the show was of course Näytös 17.

This time I chose to you only the pictures of three award winners, but believe me, the whole show was a kind of fireworks, a huge collection of creativity, talent, energy, colour and joy.

Diesel Award went to Heidi-Maria Hynynen
for her voluptuos Menswear Collection.
Elina Äärelä got Marimekko Award
thanking for glitter of her dresses Swarowski crystals.
Näytös 17 Award went to Sini-Pilvi Kiilunen
for her Menswear Graduation Collection.

These shoes are made for marching

Shoes by Hanne Jurmu and Anton Vartiainen, winners of Chloé Award and Special Mention of the Jury Prize, Festival Hyéres 2016.

Näytös 16, Aalto Fashion Show, in Kaapelitehdas Helsinki on Wednesday showed the exiting ideas happening in the Finnish fashion at the moment.

Some of my Finnish favorites of the show are also these:
Saara Lepokorpi, Finalist ITS 2008.
Julia Männistö, Semifinalist, LVMH Prize 2016.
Heini-Maria Hynynen.

Anna Teurnell, the new driving force of Marimekko

Anna Teurnell comes from Sweden and looks fresh like a schoolgirl but is in reality pretty experienced woman in the field of the international design world.

The temptation that brought her to Finland was a challenge to refresh the Finnish national treasure Marimekko.

Now the creative director of the house has shown what she can do with the brand and it´s gem cave of pattern archive to make it more appealing to customers.

New ideas and materials, new accessories, more interesting home line will surely in no time bring new wind under Marimekko´s wings.

Only thing that drives me mad is that I cannot buy things Marimekko people are wearing when they present the trends of the coming season.

Lovely food experience in Helsinki

Finnish lamb neck with grilled pointed cabbage, kohlrabi spaghetti and dark onion stock.

If you would like to pamper yourself and your best friend with a wonderful lunch in Helsinki, book a table at Restaurant Olo near Market Square.

One Michelin star and an enthusiastic staff will guarantee you enjoyable culinary moments. Could there be a better souvenir to take with you from your stay in Helsinki, I just ask.

Many faces of Daniel Palillo

Furry Face. Textile, acrylic 2016.

A couple of years ago it happened: Finnish fashion designer Daniel Palillo, pretty famous all over world, decided he had enough.

No more fashion.

Now he has an exhibition at Design Museum Helsinki exhibiting things (paintings, textile sculptures) that look like clothes. Or fashion.

His comments on the fashion world are hilarious and rough but no way mean. I bet there are a lot of visitors who would like to wear those things, warm and cuddly.

Daniel Palillo: Mainly Portraits until May 25th at Design Museum Gallery. The exhibition is a part of Pre Helsinki fashion event later this month.
